Who are Land Rover?
So, is it Land Rover, or is it a Franchised operation? Well sadly, if you purchase a Land Rover vehicle in the UK, the chances are, is that you have purchased from a Franchised Dealership AKA, a Main Dealer. So, what does that mean? Well, it means that if you have any issues with either the sale or after sales service, you will be left to fend for yourself and deal directly with the Franchisee. In this case, WITHOUT the support of the manufacturer.
So why is this the case? Surely you would think that if it were Land Rover, you would deal with them directly, wouldn’t you? WRONG. Sure, you can make a complaint to them, but it will just be passed back to the dealership (or Franchise). Is this misrepresentation? Misrepresentation Act 1967 - Legislation.gov.uk
Some customers may consider this as misleading. Especially as you are buying the vehicle brand and not necessarily the FRANCHISE main dealer brand. You would hope that JLR would step in and save the day for any disputes. WRONG. They will pass you back to the Franchise. As they say, ‘we are just the manufacturer!’
Do you think that you should receive the same service from whomever you do business with, regardless of which LR main dealer it is? WRONG. You will be subject to caveats and internal company policy that is not regulated by Land Rover. Do they care?
Maybe you will try to pursue a small claim against Land Rover, but where is the data on other claims? Has anyone actually ever successfully lodged a claim AGAINST LAND ROVER themselves? NO appears to be the answer, with the exception of one case, ironically about misrepresentation back in 2018 (see below). All claims are made against the Franchise.
You would think that if the Franchise (AKA MAIN DEALER) is signed up to an Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme (ADR) system and paying to be part of the MO (Motor Ombudsman) code of practice that they would follow the rules, yes? WRONG!
